Research Project
TIME-DISTANCE
HELIOSEISMOLOGY, developed by
Tom Duvall
and others,
is a technique which uses acoustic wave travel times to infer the
structure and/or dynamics of the solar interior. Using this technique,
I have been searching for large-scale flows
in the solar convection zone. In November of 1997 we published a Letter to
Nature
which reported the first subsurface measurements of the global meridional
circulation of the sun. Those results were also announced as part of a
NASA Space Science
Update.
My dissertation is available in whole or in parts, in
PostScript or
PDF versions.

SOI tutorial.
