SOI Team Science Investigations Hilbert Transform Analysis

Outstanding Problems

The procedure suffers from contamination of the effective wave number by interference between the various modes in the wave packet. Igor Zayer suggested that by studying the entire three-dimensional data set at once the interference could be eliminated. One can think of procedures whereby in principle that might conceivably be accomplished, but the computer resources that would be required are far beyond anything available today. However, an analogous problem in one dimension is currently being studied by H-Y Chang and Gough in another context, and it might be that that could provide the basis of an interference elimination procedure based on a sequence of one-dimensional operations.
