Amy Scherrer's Page

"I am cherry alive," the little girl sang,
"Each morning I am something new:
I am apple, I am plum, I am just as excited
As the boys who made the Hollowe'en bang:
I am tree, I am cat, I am blossom too:
When I like, if I like, I can be something new,
Someone very old, a witch in a zoo:
I can be someone else whenever I think who,
And I want to be everything sometimes too:
And the peach has a pit and I know that too,
And I put it along with everything
To make the grown-ups laugh whenever I sing:
And I sing: It is true; It is untrue;
I know, I know, the true is untrue,
The peach has a pit, the pit has a peach:
And both may be wrong when I sing my song,
But I don't tell the grown-ups: because it is sad,
And I want them to laugh just like I do
Because they grew up and forgot what they knew
And they are sure I will forget someday too.
They are wrong. They are wrong. When I sang my song, I knew, I knew!
I am red, I am gold, I am green, I am blue,
I will always be me, I will always be new!"

This page is not designed to show off, cause I'm not putting much effort into it and even if I had I'm not very creative. This page is just a place where I'm going to put pictures, notes, or other little things to show my friends. This is also a page for people who like to read. There's a lot of stuff about me along the way, though most of the people who will be seeing this already know a lot about me. There's also a whole lot about my family. So anyway, enjoy!

I guess the thing I should start with is a look at where I live. The town I grew up in, and still reside in, is a small place filled with nothing. There's schools, churches of all kinds, a BART station, and a KKK headquarters. But that's about it. Controlled by fundamentalist Christians and being constructed by money-hungry developers, it's a wonder that it is still beautiful here. Perhaps it is simply the location of our house that makes it not seem so bad. You see, we live on a twisted trail called Palomares Road, in a small canyon called Palomares Canyon. A creek that only runs half the year winds its way past so many changing scenes. Coming off the freeway, you might miss Palomares School as it hides in the trees. Turning at the old purple barn, you start up and find yourself going past horse ranches and huge victorian homes. Turn the corner and to the left are golden rolling hills with deer nibbling on the sweet grass. To the right is a steep decent dropping into miniature valleys of ancient and unused cherry orchards. A bit further on and you come to a few small houses and apple trees where the deer feed in the fall. As the road climbs and the peak appears, you can look over an ocean of trees. At a distance, each leaf has turned to a bluish-green and the sky is of the color only seen in movies. Wispy clouds might remind you of pictures you see of those never-real perfect days at a park. Continuing, you now travel down and the road drops off steeply to the right, the shadows hiding the rocky creek from view. The road narrows and the left becomes a cliff, rising so high there seems to be no ending. In the winter, heavy rains wash hugh boulders onto the road from above and erosion from illigally-built driveways wash away the pavement. Past the ghostly beauty of the mountain cliffs, the road suddenly opens to a highway-like road. It zooms under the outdated bridges where only one, barely operational train passes overhead every Sunday.
For all its problems, I love all 9 miles of Palomares...

You can learn about some of my friends at my friends page.

This may not be very interesting to most of you. This is a link to the image directory. There's only three pictures in here. One is me in 8th grade. Another is what I imagined one of my rp (role-play) characters to look like. Her name was Kiwi Skandrannon, but she didn't last long. The last is what I pictured one of my friend's character looking like. This was in a fantasy mush, and I haven't been on it for a long time, and it isn't likely I'll ever go back. I just put this in first to get it out of the way. If I ever put more pics in here, I'll be sure to make it more obvious.

This is a link to a page dedicated to my favorite singing group, Peter, Paul and Mary. Don't be surprised if you've never heard of them. PP&M sing songs about life. There are a few about love. But most are about war, or growing old, or a hate that shouldn't exist (such as racism).

If you would like to look into the lives of a few pigeons, go to my birdies page.

This is a picture of our pet lovebird, Kiwi. He's alittle over 1 and 1/2 years old now. And he's the sweetest bird in the world, in my opinion. He'll sit anywhere, as long as it's on you. He'll eat earring whenever possible, and takes great delight in distracting you from anything you may be working on when you could be looking at him instead. But he doesn't seem to like certain people, such as my dad.

Speaking of my Dad, here's alittle about him: Phil Scherrer is a professor at Stanford University, and a great father. I can't remember the last time he yelled at me. I mean really yelled. Even when I rang up a $200 phone bill to Pennsylvania, he just said "I understand you need to talk to your friends, but how about not letting the conversations be to long..." He's always ready to listen and understand. And uses care and love instead of force when something needs to be done.
Recently he's been real busy, but he still takes time off to play a board game or work outside, just for the sake of moving. Here's a picture we took last Easter. I just thought it was a cute picture of him.

Going on to my Mom, she's a full-time software engineer who is also a full-time Mom, the President of the local Homeowners Association, and the leader of several projects in the local 4H club (Astronomy is her big one). She loves any creature with feathers, fur or scales. But her big animal loves are horses, turtles, cats, and a little lovebird name Kiwi. (I'll try to get some pics of the others as soon as possible) Most of all she loves her husband, me, and my brother. Debbie Scherrer is one of the most wonderful people who has ever lived, once again, in my opinion. I seem to have been camera-happy last Easter, because here's another picture.

My parents love each other very much, and have been married for over 30 years. No words can describe my love for them, or my dependence on their strength and kindness. They are the ones who have shaped my world into the paradise I live in today.

Now my brother. Ben is two years younger than I am, and a screen freak. What I mean by screen freak is that he spends all his time in front of screens. Computer screens, TV screens, video game screens... And unlike most of my friends and their siblings, I love him very much. We often play computer games together, or just sit and watch some boring movie, just to be doing nothing. He's had some problems over the past few years. But there hasn't been any chair-throwing, kicking, punching, yelling or door-smashing for a long time. As corny as this sounds, it's become pleasant to be around him.

Grandmothers are sometimes a girl's best friend, sometimes that person you go visit on Christmas, and sometimes not even there. Well, that's half true for me. My grandmother on my Mom's side died in 1989, and I oddly remember crying on my Dad's shoulder, and saying over and over "It's too soon! I never even knew her.. It's too soon!"
But my grandmother on my Dad's side is far from gone. If you want to learn more about her click here.

Now me. As I've only lived a short 15 and a half years, I haven't done much to boast of. But I guess I can talk about who I am instead.

And finally, you can look at some pictures of the beauty the Earth shares with us.

If you've made it this far I'm sure your sick and tired of seeing so many stories, so I'll give you a list of numbers. Or, really, a list of all the animals that live with us:

4 cats (our house) Marsha, Tabby, Jake and Black
1 feral cat, Red
3 more cats (Grandma's house) Missy, Pebbles and Shasta
3 lovebirds (inside) Kiwi, Brother and Sister
well over 40 pigeons (outside) I'll make them their own page later
2 box turtles (inside/outside) Missouri and Buttercup
1 African Spurred Tortoise (inside right now) doesn't have a name yet. Any ideas?????
1 three-legged mouse (inside) again, no name. But s/he's pretty old and is expected to die of age soon. :(
5 Red eared Slider turtles (in the greenhouse) They don't have names
1 other turtle (he's with the sliders, but I don't know what species he is) Plum
3 horses (one is away right now) Sandy, Deacon and Diamond (They'll get their own page as well)
5+ fish (greenhouse) These guys don't have names, but ya still have ta feed them so they count
2 yorkshire terriers dogs (Grandma's house) Morgan and Mikey
1 collie (Grandma's house) Lucky
30-40 bats (in the bathouse) I don't know if they really count, cause they feed themselves. But we put the bat house up!
2 cliff swallows (over front door) Same deal as with the bats, except they built their own nest.
1 younger brother (inside) just kidding. :}
1 slug that we can't seem to find but always leaves it's tracks in the entryway.
More than a few spiders that make their homes in corners all over the house. Don't look up!

For a grand total of about 100 animals sharing our home.

But now I'll bid you a fond farewell, and I hope you enjoyed yourself. If you didn't, well, you could have stopped at any time. If you have any questions (like what the hell 4H is) or if you want to contact me for any other reason, my email is amy@quake.stanford.edu.  Listen to the Earth, and good luck in life!
