The 4-H Astronomy group hasabeen learning abuot comets. Thay have learned that a comet is made up of dry ice, organic matter, dirt, amonia, and water. A comet to our Astronomy group is a dirty snow ball the size of an iceberg drifting in our solar system. A comet is first located outside our solar plane. Occasionally a comet falls into our solar system.
A comet is formed from left over material in the solar system. By gravitational pull the comet orbits the Sun. But yet when it orbits, the tail always points away from the Sun. As you can see, the Astronomy leader, Deborah Scherrer, has taught the group many interesting facts about comets. (Her husband, Philip Scherrer, has been involved a lot too!)
