About the Palomares 4-H Astronomy Project
|
What are we?
The Palomares 4H Astronomy Project has existed since about 1990, created and still being
led by Deborah Scherrer. It's goal is to excite young people about science and to
teach them science and leadership skills through hands-on activities and 4H and
astronomy related experiences.
Although we are based at Palomares, participatants can be from any of the 4H clubs.
Members should be at least 9 years old, although
exceptions can be made in special cases. We usually have between 10 and 30
members each year.
What do we do?
Our yearly activities often include:
- Monthly meetings
- A Solstice Party in late December
- A presentation at a local science museum on Astronomy Day
- Planetarium presentions we give to local 4H clubs
- A star party we give for another club or school
- Field trips to the Stanford Solar and other observatories
- Astronomy presntations for Presentation Day
- Astronomy models for the Fair
- A 2-day summer campout focused on observing
Who are our leaders?
- Deborah Scherrer

- Philip Scherrer
